Helping Hands
Centre 440 Hawkesbury - Providing Lunch / Creating Community - Our second Saturday of providing lunch last week saw 24 individuals (including 6 children) enjoying a delicious meal of homemade chili (complete with sour cream and grated cheese), tortilla chips, salad and a wide variety of desserts, complemented with a children's dessert and beverages for all! This week, our Parish has been blessed by an outpouring of support for this program, including the $10,000 grant from the Future Fund Grant of the Diocese of Ottawa, financial donations from individuals, donations of kitchen items from the Diocese of Ottawa, as well as very generous donations of foods from local businesses. And, on Saturday morning, an unexpected delivery of loaves of bread and other bread items arrived, which we distributed to those enjoying lunch at Centre 440, all of whom were delighted to have this extra food to bring home! We are currently finalizing a schedule for those who have indicated an interest in volunteering. If you would like to be added to the list of volunteers, please send an email to centre440hawkesbury@gmail.com and we will gladly add you to the schedule!
Centre 105 Cornwall - This week, our Parish delivered body wash and shampoo (for the shower program), a laundry basket (for the laundry program), pillows, and many plastic containers (which they use for take-out meals) to Centre 105. They were delighted and extended their heartfelt thanks to our Parish for our continued support! A reminder that containers can be dropped off at St John's, VKH or Holy Trinity, Hawkesbury. Other arrangements can be made by contacting Carolyn Coffin-Caputo at cccaputo@sympatico.ca or at 514-947-8919.
Food Bank Baskets: Please remember to bring contributions for the food bank baskets at Holy Trinity Hawkesbury and St John’s Vankleek Hill. The most requested items are canned meat and fish, canned vegetables and fruit, cereal, pasta and sauce, legumes and peanut butter. The local Food Banks depend on our faithful contributions. St. John’s is collecting pill bottles( labels removed) , eye glasses, used stamps and pop can tabs for Belong Ottawa. There is also a basket for these items at Holy Trinity. Your contributions are appreciated.
